Update reduces HE tagging, more

A new update for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has been released, most importantly reducing the tagging effect of HE grenades.

After most of the community unanimously agreed the tagging effect of the HE grenades was too strong in last week’s update, Valve have reduced its strength this week.

Other changes include the introduction of Music Kits, and a number of fixes for glitched such as being kicked out of a lobby when returning from a matchmaking game:

– Introducing Music Kits, featuring new music exclusively made for CS:GO by various artists and composers.
– When equipped, Music Kits replace all of the music in the game and include an anthem that plays whenever you are MVP.
– Music Kits can be shared through the scoreboard...

NiP win ESL One Cologne 2014

NiP have  won  ESL One Cologne 2014 and $100,000 by beating fnatic 2-1 (16-11 de_cobblestone, 8-16 de_cache, 16-13 de_inferno) in the grand final.

NiP attacked A on their terrorist pistol round of de_cobblestone, but after trading knife kills lost the round. They dropped an AK for round two, but lost and had to save, going down 0-3.

Three kills by Robin “flusha” Rönnquist weren’t enough to win the first round as a poor peek by Markus “pronax” Wallsten allowed NiP to win. Next round Patrik “f0rest” Lindberg scored four kills to win the round.

After two rounds lost to peeking too much with little time left to plant the bomb, fnatic were forced to save, allowing NiP to tie the score at 3-3 before fnatic won a round  back.

Two kills by Wallsten and Rönnquist made it 4-3, two by ...

Virtus.pro win Gfinity 3

Virtus.pro are the champions of Gfinity 3 after defeating Titan straight 2-0 (16-4 de_mirage, 16-12 de_nuke) and grab the main prize of $20,000 and an ESWC spot home.

Starting off as Terrorists on de_mirage, Virtus.pro’s basic pit strategy took over the A bombsite for 4-0, after Jarosław “pasha” Jarząbkowski opened up the B bombsite by himself. Titan then tried to work around their two saved weapons, but VP’s smokeoff strategy pushed them to 5-0.

A triple AWP buy on Titan was scrapped by the Poles when they picked the French-Belgian team one by one, and once Jarząbkowski picked Kenny “kennyS” Schrub on mid in the following round, VP took advantage of the lowered defence on B and went on to take the lead to 8-0.

Titan finally took a round by picking Virtus...

New update brings old crosshair

Valve has released a new update for CS:GO which introduces a new crosshair style.

This new crosshair, which can test by inserting the cl_crosshairstyle 5 command, attempts to emulate the non-dynamic behaviour of the old 1.6 and CS:Source crosshairs.

Valve recommends, however, that players who are new to the game that they stay away from this crosshair as it does not provide accurate feedback the weapons’ accuracy, spread or recoil.

de_overpass and de_cobblestone, which Valve are trying to introduce in competitive gaming, have both been tweaked a bit.

Below you can find the complete patch notes:

  • Fixed the bullet penetration system not penetrating static GRATE surfaces (fences) and brushes that are NODRAW on both sides (for example, the ladder in Cache).

  • Fixed upper sh...

New case, wallbang fix in update

Valve has released a new update for CS:GO that introduces the new eSports cases and fixes some wallbanging issues.

Following last week’s update, which introduced Operation Breakout, many players had been complaining about the AWP doing too much penetration damage and that the penetration pattern on the maps no longer made sense.

Valve has now apparently fixed those uses, reducing the penetration damage of the AWP, the G3SG1 and the SCAR-20 and fixing bad penetration results in certain surfaces.

Other changes brought by last night’s update include introducing the new eSports Summer Case and some tweaks to maps like de_dust2, de_mirage and de_inferno. Surprisingly, in order to fix the double doors penetration issue on dust2, the wooden doors have been replaced by metal ones.

Below you can fi...

ESL One Cologne map pool revised

The Electronic Sports League (ESL) has announced that it has revamped the map pool for ESL One Cologne.

Last week, ESL’s product manager, Alexander “crtmN” Nehr, had already revealed via Twitter that the organisation would update the map pool for ESL One Cologne, the organisation’s upcoming $250,000 event that will take place under the wings of GamesCom from August 14th to 17th.

The ESL has now confirmed that it will be adopting the “active duty map” pool, a designation introduced by July 2nd’s update, which means that de_cache, de_cobblestone and de_overpass have been added to the list.

On the other hand, de_train, the most vetoed map at EMS One Katowice and one inserted into the “Reserve Map list”, is off the map pool for the event.

The following seven maps will be played at EMS One Co...
